Day by day detailed itinerary for the 10 days Rwanda safari tour

On arrival,

You will be picked up by our safari guide from the airport

For the accommodation arranged before the tour, is arranged at an extra cost.

Day 1: arrival at Kigali international airport

On arrival, your driver guide of the safari will be at the airport to pick you up from your flight, depending on your time of arrival, in case you arrive early, you may have visits to Kigali craft market  Features pottery, carvings, batik, painting, drawing, musical instruments, accessories and textiles on sale. Stay set to use your haggling abilities!  all the events and transactions are at your own expense. You will have lunch enroute. thereafter, the guide will then transfer to the lodge in Kigali where you will relax from, Dinner and overnight stay.

Meal plan: Half board

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera national park

After your delicious morning breakfast, you will start your journey to Akagera National park. Akagera National Park occupies 2500 km2 of savannah in the north-east of Rwanda, west of the Kagera River. The park has a biodiversity range, and is a sanctuary for over 500 different bird species. Elephant and buffalo herds come out of the woods to drink on the lakes, while you may happen to come across a leopard, a spotted hyena, or even a lion. The savannah is plagued by giraffe and zebra and more of the Antelopes live in the forest.

You will have lunch enroute and proceed to the park, upon arrival, you will check in to the lodge for relaxation and later you will have an afternoon game drive in the park where you will have an opportunity spot a number of animals and bird species inhabited in the forest.

Day 3: boat cruise and Genocide memorial

You will have an early morning breakfast as you set of for a boat cruise where you will have an opportunity to spot many water bucks such as Fish eagles and kingfishers, Cormorans, later you will head back to Kigali.

After lunch you’ll travel through a beautiful countryside not often seen by visitors to the Bugesera area, south of Kigali. You’ll visit a memorial church of the genocide in the little town of Nyamata. Thereafter you will visit the genocide memorial in the city centre to learn more about the tragedy that hit Rwanda.

Day 4: Nyungwe forest national park

After an early breakfast, you will set of to the famous Nyungwe Forest One of the vastest forests in East and Central Africa. The forest is rich with flora and fauna including 13 primate species including colobus monkeys, gray monkeys and chimpanzees. The forest is also the perfect location for birders with over 310 recorded bird species and 26 of which are endemic making the park one of the best destinations in Africa for bird watching.

You will have lunch enroute as you proceed to the lodge., check in for Dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking

After an early morning start, you will proceed to the chimpanzee trekking headquarters for a briefing on the dos and the don’ts for chimpanzee trekking. You then proceed to the forest following the trail either in Cyamudongo or Uwinka sections of Nyungwe forest. This exciting up-close encounter with human’s closest relative comes with a lot of fun you will not forget soon.

 After the Rwanda chimpanzee trekking, you can choice either to relax in the lodge or go an optional activity that you will discuss with your guide.

Day 6: Canopy walk and waterfall hike

The canopy walks for scenic views of the forest from above where you will spot several animal species and birds in the forest. The walk takes you through some beautiful foliage and livestock habitats for about 11⁄2 hours. On the way, you’ll have the opportunity to spot blue monkeys and unique birds living in the upper forest canopy levels.

You’ll go for the walk to the Waterfall in the afternoon. This trek requires 3 to 6 hours of round trip, depending on how often you travel to sightseeing and whether you choose to drive a little further or bike from the headquarters. Essentially, the first section of the path parallels the route to the vehicle park and before delving into the trees. Finally completing a steep drop to the base of the tiny soothing waterfall, you’ll have to navigate different streams. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Lake Kivu

After comfortable breakfast, you will travel to Kibuye on the eastern shores of Lake Kivu. you can visit the Ndaba Falls or take a walk around Kibuye town. In the afternoon you can you can rent a boat and visit a few islands. All activities here today are at your own cost. You then return to the lodge for dinner and night stay.

Day 8: Volcanoes National Park

Today after an early morning breakfast, you shall drive northeast to the town of Musanze close to the Virunga Volcano range show casing the Rwandas Musanze cave which dates back to 65 million years. This beautiful area represents the gateway to the gorilla tracking.

Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge is situated on the edge of the town. The spacious rooms give you a homely feeling. In the evening, enjoy a camp fire and some entertainment from some local dance groups.

Day 9: Rwanda Gorilla trekking

 You will rise early morning! From the lodge, you drive into the park about 30 minutes to the Office Rwanda’s du Tourism et Des Parc Nationaux. The head ranger of the park will divide you into groups based on interest and fitness.  From the office, the guide will drive you to the starting point of the gorilla trekking. You will track the Gorillas of one of the habituated groups that can withstand human presence for a short period of time every day.

Prepare for an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes and bamboo before you eventually reach the gorillas. The guide will point out the signs of the gorillas like dung, nests, and chewed bamboo shoots meaning that you are getting closer to them. It can take as little as half an hour to trace the gorillas to as much as 8 hours! Once found, you’ll be permitted with the gorillas for a period of one hour. It’s a humbling and emotional experience to come face to face with a mountain gorilla. This is a wonderful and unique chance for Rwanda’s own’ Gorillas in the Mist’ to get up close and personal.

Day 10: Departure

Today after a relaxed breakfast you will be transferred by your driver/guide back to Kigali in time to catch your flight back home. Sadly, this is where you say goodbye to Rwanda.
