Day 1: Arrival in Rwanda at the Kigali International Airport

On arrival at the Kigali airport, you will be met by one of our safari guide who will give a briefing on your 3 days gorilla trekking safari in Rwanda, you will then start your journey to volcanoes national park, you may have an optional city tour, lunch enroute, you will then proceed to the park, check in to the lodge for Dinner and over night stay for the nest day gorilla trekking safari.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking and afternoon Iby’iwacu cultural visit

After an early morning breakfast, the driver guide will drive you to the park headquarters where you will join others for a briefing, thereafter you will start the trek in volcanoes national park, the exercise may last for about 2 hours to 8 hours of the day depending on the location of the gorillas on that day. When you have found them, you will be allowed one hour with them as you study and observe their characters as they live in their gorilla families. Return to the lodge for relaxation.

Later in the afternoon, you will go for Iby’iwacu cultural village in the nearby communities for cultural visits where the locals will show case some of their unique cultures inform of dances and other activities, you may also join then during the dance, this is so full of fun as you interact with the locals.

Day 1: arrival at Kigali international airport

On arrival, your driver guide of the safari will be at the airport to pick you up from your flight, depending on your time of arrival, in case you arrive early, you may have visits to Kigali craft market  Features pottery, carvings, batik, painting, drawing, musical instruments, accessories and textiles on sale. Stay set to use your haggling abilities!  all the events and transactions are at your own expense. Day 2: Transfer to Akagera national park

After your delicious morning breakfast, you will start your journey to Akagera National park. Akagera National Park occupies 2500 km2 of savannah in the north-east of Rwanda, west of the Kagera River. The park has a biodiversity range, and is a sanctuary for over 500 different bird species. Elephant and buffalo herds come out of the woods to drink on the lakes, while you may happen to come across a leopard, a spotted hyena, or even a lion. The savannah is plagued by giraffe and zebra and more of the Antelopes live in the forest.

You will have lunch enroute and proceed to the park, upon arrival, you will check in to the lodge for relaxation and later you will have an afternoon game drive in the park where you will have an opportunity spot a number of animals and bird species inhabited in the forest.

Day 3: boat cruise and Genocide memorial

You will have an early morning breakfast as you set of for a boat cruise where you will have an opportunity to spot many water bucks such as Fish eagles and kingfishers, Cormorans, later you will head back to Kigali.

After lunch you’ll travel through a beautiful countryside not often seen by visitors to the Bugesera area, south of Kigali. You’ll visit a memorial church of the genocide in the little town of Nyamata. Thereafter you will visit the genocide memorial in the city centre to learn more about the tragedy that hit Rwanda.

Day 4: Nyungwe forest national park

After an early breakfast, you will set of to the famous Nyungwe Forest One of the vastest forests in East and Central Africa. The forest is rich with flora and fauna including 13 primate species including colobus monkeys, gray monkeys and chimpanzees. The forest is also the perfect location for birders with over 310 recorded bird species and 26 of which are endemic making the park one of the best destinations in Africa for bird watching.

You will have lunch enroute as you proceed to the lodge., check in for Dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking

After an early morning start, you will proceed to the chimpanzee trekking headquarters for a briefing on the dos and the don’ts for chimpanzee trekking. You then proceed to the forest following the trail either in Cyamudongo or Uwinka sections of Nyungwe forest. This exciting up-close encounter with human’s closest relative comes with a lot of fun you will not forget soon.

 After the Rwanda chimpanzee trekking, you can choice either to relax in the lodge or go an optional activity that you will discuss with your guide.

Day 6: Canopy walk and waterfall hike

The canopy walks for scenic views of the forest from above where you will spot several animal species and birds in the forest. The walk takes you through some beautiful foliage and livestock habitats for about 11⁄2 hours. On the way, you’ll have the opportunity to spot blue monkeys and unique birds living in the upper forest canopy levels.

You’ll go for the walk to the Waterfall in the afternoon. This trek requires 3 to 6 hours of round trip, depending on how often you travel to sightseeing and whether you choose to drive a little further or bike from the headquarters. Essentially, the first section of the path parallels the route to the vehicle park and before delving into the trees. Finally completing a steep drop to the base of the tiny soothing waterfall, you’ll have to navigate different streams. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Lake Kivu

After comfortable breakfast, you will travel to Kibuye on the eastern shores of Lake Kivu. you can visit the Ndaba Falls or take a walk around Kibuye town. In the afternoon you can you can rent a boat and visit a few islands. All activities here today are at your own cost. You then return to the lodge for dinner and night stay.

Day 8: Volcanoes National Park

Today after an early morning breakfast, you shall drive northeast to the town of Musanze close to the Virunga Volcano range show casing the Rwandas Musanze cave which dates back to 65 million years. This beautiful area represents the gateway to the gorilla tracking.

Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge is situated on the edge of the town. The spacious rooms give you a homely feeling. In the evening, enjoy a camp fire and some entertainment from some local dance groups.

Day 9: Rwanda Gorilla trekking

 You will rise early morning! From the lodge, you drive into the park about 30 minutes to the Office Rwanda’s du Tourism et Des Parc Nationaux. The head ranger of the park will divide you into groups based on interest and fitness.  From the office, the guide will drive you to the starting point of the gorilla trekking. You will track the Gorillas of one of the habituated groups that can withstand human presence for a short period of time every day.

Prepare for an exciting journey along forested slopes, entwined vines, bushes and bamboo before you eventually reach the gorillas. The guide will point out the signs of the gorillas like dung, nests, and chewed bamboo shoots meaning that you are getting closer to them. It can take as little as half an hour to trace the gorillas to as much as 8 hours! Once found, you’ll be permitted with the gorillas for a period of one hour. It’s a humbling and emotional experience to come face to face with a mountain gorilla. This is a wonderful and unique chance for Rwanda’s own’ Gorillas in the Mist’ to get up close and personal.

Day 10: Departure

Day 1: arrival to Kigali airport

Arrival to Kigali airport, you will be picked up by one of our representatives who will brief you on the 6 days gorilla and wildlife safari, he will transfer to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National park

After an early morning breakfast, you will depart to akagera national park. you will have lunch enroute, then you will proceed with a game drive along the Lake Circuit the animals you expect here include; Giraffes, buffaloes, Zebras, elephants, hippos among others. check in to the lodge and you may have an optional nature walk as you view the wide array of different bird species. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 3: game drive and afternoon boat cruise

You will wake up early by 6:00am and have your breakfast at 6:30 am thereafter, you will proceed to the park for an early morning game drive which is the best time to catch the early morning rises as the retire from the previous day hunt. The drive takes you through the Northern sector of the park where you will have the great wildlife viewing where you will spot animals like the elephants, buffaloes, waterbucks and topis, among others as you drive towards the Mutumba hill overlooking the Northern sector of the park, which has the highest concentration of wildlife. On the savannah grassland, you will also view variety of animal species such as the antelope’s family including; cape eland, roan antelopes, oribis, common duiker, impala among others. Your will return to the lodge for lunch and relaxation in preparation for the afternoon boat on lake Ihema

Day 4: Transfer to Volcanoes National park

After early morning breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and start your journey from Akagera national park to Volcanoes national in Rwanda, you will have lunch enroute. Proceed to the park and check in to the lodge for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking and afternoon Iby’iwacu community visit

You will rise up early by 6:00am for an early breakfast and by 6:30 am, he driver guide will transfer you to the park headquarters where you will join others for a briefing about the gorillas. Thereafter, you will be divided in groups of 8 member per gorilla family, after the briefing, you will start the gorilla trekking through the forest for a bout 30 min to 8 hours depending on the location of the gorillas and when you have the gorillas, you will be given one hour with them as you observe them feeding, nursing young ones, nesting etc. You can also take some photos for your memories. After, you will return to the lodge for relaxation.

Later afternoon, you will go for Iby’iwacu community visit to the near by villages where they will show case their unique cultures inform of dances and many more its much interesting and full of fun as you may also join them during the activities.

Day 6: Transfer back to Kigali

After an early morning breakfast, you check out of the lodge and proceed with the city tour, also you will visit the Genocide memorial Museum and the local markets in the city where you may also like to purchase some items. Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Day 5: Gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park

Today you will enjoy the highlight of this trip mainly for gorilla trekking experience. Our adventure starts with a briefing at the headquarters before heading out on the trek on your adventure safari. Gorilla trekking will last somewhere from two and eight hours, depending on the gorilla families we are allocated to. After we find the gorillas, before going down the mountain, we will be allowed to spend an hour with them, studying them and observing their characters in their presence.

After the trek, you will return to the headquarters and the guide will drive you back to Kigali for the overnight stay at the Chez Lando Hotel.

Day 6: Transfer to Akagera National Park national park from Kigali

 After breakfast we should make our way to the spectacular Akagera National Park, which comprises of wetland, savannah and forest, this park lies at a lower altitude than the rest of the country, so it is not only cooler but drier. Some of the species you’ll see here includes giraffes, buffalos and lions as well as a variety of birds.

 Depending on the day, in case we are fortunate we might get a glimpse of the shoebill stork around the lake’s shores.

Day 7: Game drive and Boat ride on lake Ihema

You will have an early morning breakfast and start your game drives in an open roofed vehicle in Akagera forest national park. the game drives cover about three quarters of the day, game drive here gives you a chance to catch a wide range of games such as elephants, buffaloes, hippos, lions, Masai giraffe, gazelles, impala, baboons, oribi, Butchel’s zebra, topis, bush baby, leopard and bush-buck, etc.

Return to the lodge for lunch and after proceed for a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, for a close encounter with the Crocodiles and Hippos along the river banks, in combination with a high concentration of over 525 species of birds, both migratory and savanna related , you will spot Unique species such as Shoe billed stocks and papyrus gonolek can be encountered. Day 4 Gorilla trekking

After an early morning breakfast, the lodge will provide you with packed lunch and drinking water as you will head to volcanoes national park headquarters for the normal gorilla trekking briefing where they will remind you the dos and the don’ts while you are with the gorillas. After the briefing, you will be divided in groups of 8 members and allocated gorilla family which is done randomly. you start your trek in the forest.

Gorilla trekking activity lasts for 2 to 8 hours of the day depending on the current location of the gorillas, when you have found them, you will be allowed 1 hour with the gorillas as you observe them, thereafter, you will return to the lodge for relaxation .later in the afternoon, incase time allows, the guide will take you for Iby’iwacu cultural visit where you will interact with local communities as they show case some of their unique traditional cultures to entertain the visitors. Return to the lodge for Dinner and slumber.

Day 5: Golden Monkey Trekking

After early morning breakfast, you will you will head to the park headquarters to join other trekkers for a briefing, visitors have an opportunity to either do golden monkey trekking, or a hike to the Dian Fossey an American protagonist who dedicated her life to conserve the life of the gorillas in volcanoes national park but later she was killed and was buried nest to the mountain gorilla known called Digit. You will have an opportunity learn more about the mountain gorillas at the research centre.

After, you will return to the lodge to pack up your luggage and transfer to Nyungwe forest national park, you will have lunch enroute as you proceed to Nyungwe forest national park. on arrival, you will check in to the lodge for Dinner served at the lodge and overnight stay.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking

After the morning breakfast, the tour guide will drive you to the park headquarters for chimpanzee trekking briefing, after the briefing, you will start the trek in the forest in search for the habituated chimpanzee families opened for chimpanzee trekking. Searching for the chimps Is not as difficult as gorilla trekking since the chimps are easy to spot in a shortest time, you will spot them jumping from one tree to another, chattering, feeding, etc you will be given one hour with them, the exercise lasts for about 3 hours. Return to the lodge for lunch.

 In the afternoon, you will be guided by a guide who will lead you on a canopy walk on a swing bridge about 50 meters long, balanced on tall trees. during the canopy walk, you will have an opportunity to spot bird, wildlife species seen below you etc. thereafter, you will return to the lodge for Dinner and slumber.

Day 7: Return to Kigali

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and afternoon Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest national park

You will rise up for an early morning breakfast by 6:30am, the lodge will give you packed lunch and enough drinking water as you proceed to the park headquarters to join other trekkers for a briefing by the guide/rangers on the dos and the don’ts of chimpanzee trekking. You will then proceed to the forest in search for the chimps the trekking will take about 2 hours to half hours of the day depending on the looking of the chimps on that particular day. When you have found them, you will be allowed 1 hour with them. Thereafter, you will return to the lodge.

In the evening, you may go for Canopy walk in Nyungwe forest where you will have an opportunity to view different plants species, birds and mammal species living in the forest Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 3: Transfer to volcanoes national park

After an early morning breakfast, you will check out of the lodge and start your journey from Nyungwe forest national park to volcanoes national park, you will have lunch enroute and proceed to the park. check in to the lodge for Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking and afternoon Iby’iwacu cultural visit

After breakfast on an early morning, set out with the driver guide as he will transfer you to the park head offices to join other trekkers for briefing about the gorillas. After briefing, you will be divided in groups of 8 members and at around 8:00am you start the gorilla trekking through the forest as you will be guided by the park rangers. It is always a thrilling and an unforgettable experience meeting these huge Apes face to face and watching them engage in their daily activities like feeding, nursing young ones, nesting etc. you will be allowed one hour with them from the time you meet them but the exercise can last for 2 -8 hours of the day depending on the location of the gorillas on that day. Also, other animals can be spotted such as the grey cheeked L’Hoest’s monkeys, buffalos, black fronted duikers, bushbucks, bush pigs, spotted hyenas, black and white colobus, white colobus, baboons, and red-tailed monkeys among others. and also, different birds.

2 Days Golden Monkey Trekking Tour in Rwanda 

Day 1: Arrival, Kigali City tour and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

 Upon arrival, our Guide will pick you up from Kigali international airport or the hotel. He will brief you about the 2-days golden monkey tour, thereafter, you will proceed with the city tour of Kigali. The city tour involves visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre, the former presidential palace, city markets and the craft shops. You will then have lunch enroute and then proceed to the Volcanoes National Park.

You will rise up early for an early morning breakfast, before you transfer to the headquarters in Kingi for a short briefing on the dos and don’ts of golden monkey trekking, the briefing starts at 7:30 am to 8:00am , after you will then be divided in groups with other trekkers for the start of the golden monkey trekking in volcanoes national park. golden monkey trekking does not last longer since its easy to locate the monkeys in the forest it may take about 2 -3 hours in the forest.

The views are amazing with lush green forest and the five volcanoes rising in all directions. It’s easy to find the monkeys as they love eating bamboos located on the Volcanoes ‘ lower slopes. You are permitted to go with them for one hour after they have been identified. When they travel around, you’re free to follow them. Day 2: Gorilla trekking and travel back to Kigali

You will rise up early morning and have an early morning breakfast by 6:30 am, the lodge will offer you picked lunch and drinking water as you head to the park headquarters for a briefing on the dos and the don’ts of gorilla trekking. After the briefing, you will be grouped into groups of 8 people and you will be located a gorilla family, the location of the gorilla groups is done randomly so you will need to be physically fit in order to hike on steep slopes. The guide will then lead you to he starting point then you begin the trek, the trekking may last for about 2-8 hours depending on the location of the gorillas since they are wild animals, they move a lot searching for food. Once you have located the gorillas, you will be allowed to spend one hour with them in their natural habitat as you study their characters, behaviors such as feeding, nursing young ones, nesting etc. these experience, will give you the best of the gorilla trekking in volcanoes national park. besides gorillas, you will also spot other small primates living in the forest, monkeys, baboons and others.

Tips for your Gorilla trekking safari in Volcanoes national park

Volcanoes national park, is a rain tropical forest and facilitates rainfall formation therefore, you will expect rainfall at any time of the day regardless of the season of the year either dry season or the wet season you can still experience rain. That is to say that you will need to be prepared and carry proper/essential equipment recommended for Rwanda gorilla trekking such as. Hiking boots, garden cloves, warm jacket/sweater, water proof jacket, long pair of trousers.
