There about 1063 Mountain Gorillas left in the world as of 2020, living in the tropical rain forests of  the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in Uganda, The Virunga National Park in Congo and the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda. At Safari to track the Mountain Gorillas has been described by many as “a once in a lifetime experience” .  There is no tourist activity in Africa that compares to trekking through the thick tropical rain-forests in search of the gentle giants who share 98% of their DNA Composition with humans qualifying them to be one of our Closest cousins second only to the Chimpanzees. Gorilla trekking in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo is similar because the terrain where the Mountain Gorillas live is very much the same. The only differences between the three countries is the Security situation, cost of the gorilla trekking permit and other minor differences not related to the actual Mountain Gorilla trekking experience in the forest

Mountain Gorilla Trekking in all the three countries starts very early in the morning where tourists are required to converge at the different park headquarters for the routine morning briefing about the do’s and dont’s of gorilla trekking . The briefing about the trek is Usually done by an experienced ranger guide or park warden who takes you through the gorilla trekking rules as well as brief you on what to expect during your gorilla trek. After briefing, guests are grouped into groups of 8 people who are assigned to a particular Mountain Gorilla Family track. Each Gorilla park has several habituated mountain gorilla families which are available for tourists to track, a maximum of  8 people is allowed to track a particular gorilla family per day.  Each group of tourists then embarks on the journey to search for the assigned gorilla family through the hilly rugged landscape covered with thick undergrowth, bamboo and tropical rain-forests accompanied by experienced ranger guides and other armed security personnel to ensure that you are safe during your gorilla trekking safari
