Ngorongoro conservation area : Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro crater is located in Ngorongoro conservation area in nothern Tanzania. It is the world’s largest caldera (260sqkm) and is as high as Mt. Kilimanjaro with its walls standing at 400- 600m high. The crater has very rich soils which support plant growth and attract a wide range and number of animals. The surrounding is neighbored by the Masai people who have an interesting lifestyle and culture.
Driving to Ngorongoro national park from Arusha airport takes about 3 hours.
The park is a home to the big 5 and other animals such as jackal, wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra, Thomson’s gazelle, black-faced vervet, baboons, over 200 bird species and a number of antelopes.
The parks only activity is game drives which are always rewarding all year round since it has a high concentration of animals. However, from July to august as well as February, this area is over flooded with visitors.
