Nshongi Camp Rates, facilities, Location

Nshongi Forest camp is a budget accommodation located at the border of Bwindi impenetrable national park. It is situated a short distance from Uganda Wildlife Authority park headquarters. It is a 5 minutes walk to the park gate and guests can decide to walk there when going to trek for gorillas. It is always an incredible moment for guests when the mountain gorillas pay a visit to the accommodation areas. Since the lodge is situated close to the park and surrounded by a lot of trees, the area is a home to a number of birds and it is visited by other animals such as monkeys and elephants.

The lodge has 4 double occupancy traditional bandas that reflect typical African traditional style of living. The buildings are eco-friendly and blend very well with the environment. They are powered by lantern lamps for light in and outside the rooms. Each of the bandas has a private bathroom.

Nshongi camp is located in Rushaga sector where there is a variety of gorilla groups from which you’ll choose the best you wish to trek depending on the experience you wish to have.

They serve 3 meals course and also prepare lunch box for guests who are going for gorilla trekking and other activities. You can enjoy your meals from outside in the serene gardens and a campfire in the evening is also lit. Guests are entertained by local dancing groups as one of the ways to have a lively day.

Camping at the lodge is one of the best night experiences you can have in Bwindi. You are required to carry your own tent if you want to camp.

Getting there

By road, you’ll travel through Masaka-Mbarara highway to Kisoro district in the far southwestern part of Uganda. It takes about 10 hours. Alternatively, you can fly to Kigali international airport and connect by road to Rushaga and to the lodge and this takes about 5 hours.

Aerolink operates daily flights to Kisoro and the flight takes about one and a half hours. From Kisoro town to Rushaga, it takes about one and a half hours.
