Mountain Gorilla trekking Congo – In addition to Uganda and Rwanda, the DRC is one of the three destinations in the world that are proud homes to the endangered mountain gorillas found in the tropical rain forests on the slopes of the Virunga mountains. Besides the park personnel that lost their lives, gorillas were also destructed by poachers and rebels that were a big problem to the region and this forced some of them to migrate to the neighboring locations in Rwanda. a great number of rangers (over 600) have been distributed around the park to maintain the security and safety of the park and this has helped in habituating and keeping the endangered gorillas available for trekking. Today, Virunga national park is estimated to have a third of the total population of gorillas in the world and these have been habituated into 8 gorilla families; Kabirizi gorilla group in Bukima section which is found close to Goma, Rugendo gorilla group, Humba girlla group in Humba, Lulengo gorilla group in Jomba, Munyaga gorilla group in Bukima section, Mapuwa gorilla group in Jomba, Bageni Gorilla group Gatovu and sometimes in Bukima section and Nyakamwe gorilla group in Bukima.

it is the Democratic Republic of Congo that still has the cheapest gorilla permits of US$400 compared to Rwanda-US$1500 and Uganda-US$700. A group of only 8 people is allowed to visit each gorilla group daily and the acvtivity is coducted between 8am and 7pm. only people above 15 years are allowed to go for trekking and once you spot the primates, you are allowed to stay with them for only one hour.

Before heading for gorilla trekking in the drc, you are required to book your gorilla permit which can easily be done through the company. In addition, a pre-application for visa to let you into the country and having got a yellow fever vaccination must be done.
