Virunga weather and climate – Virunga is surrounded by several water bodies; Lake Kivu, Lake Edward, Lake Albert, river Congo, River semuliki, River Ishasha and other tributaries produce cause breezes which lead to a mix of tropical and equatorial climate with average rainfall of 190mm. the Rwenzori Mountains also impose a lot on the climate of virunga. Since the park is located on the lee ward side of the highland which has glacier all year round, there is constant rainfall. At different altitudes of the highland is varying environments like the montane forest at 2,000m-3,000m, moorland that is alike to that in the Alps at above 4,000m. During the months of March, April and May and September, October and November is time for the wet season and the area receives high volumes of rain alongside very low temperatures during the night.

The Virunga national park is crossed by the equator and this is the reason for high temperatures in the region. The average of temperatures is between 23 and 28 degrees in the lowlands and 16-24 degrees in areas at a higher altitude. The climate of Virunga is always good for travelers and tourism activities go on all year round.
